Date of publication: 29 April 2019

Transneft PCD has laid siphons using the directional drilling method at the underwater crossing of the Novki – Razyan petroleum products trunk pipeline across the Sudogda River in Vladimir Region.

The revamping of the underwater crossing started in November 2018. The goal was to increase the reliability of operation and enhance the environmental safety of the pipeline.

The Company welded siphons for the main and the standby leg with a length of 0.88 km each and conducted hydraulic testing and in-line inspection using the ‘dry drawing’ method. Two wells across the  Sudogda River were made using the directional drilling method, and the siphons were laid. The pipeline installation works using the directional drilling method were carried out using a drilling complex with a pulling force of 150 tonnes by drilling pilot wells with their subsequent expansion for siphons.

Preparatory work has begun for construction of pipeline clean-up and inspection gadget traps. 51 employees 37 pieces of equipment are involved in the construction and installation works.

The measures are being taken as part of the technical upgrading and revamping programme for Transneft Upper Volga’s facilities, Transneft PCD being the technical customer.
